OUTSTANDING LEAD ACTOR IN A DRAMA SERIES
Gabriel Byrne, IN TREATMENT
Bryan Cranston, BREAKING BAD
Michael C. Hall, DEXTER
Jon Hamm, MAD MEN
Hugh Laurie, HOUSE
James Spader, BOSTON LEGAL
Analysis: Many people seem to be begrudgingly picking Spader, and why shouldn't they? Spader delivers a stirring monologue in front of the Supreme Court, in much the same style that has won him his past 3 Emmys in this category. But this category has some of the best performances on television. The ones that I have my eyes on are Cranston and Laurie. Both are multiple Emmy losers but Laurie has the fact that many feel he is overdue for this honor. But then there is Bryan Cranston. His performance on "Breaking Bad" is one of the most amazing performances I have ever seen in my entire life. Some might say that his show''s low viewership will hurt but enough judges saw his show to nominate in the first place which I think bodes well for Cranston.
CURRENT EDGE: Bryan Cranston, BREAKING BAD
PERSONAL PICK: Bryan Cranston, BREAKING BAD
OUTSTANDING LEAD ACTOR IN A COMEDY SERIES
Alec Baldwin, 30 ROCK
Steve Carell, THE OFFICE
Lee Pace, PUSHING DAISIES
Tony Shalhoub, MONK
Charlie Sheen, TWO AND A HALF MEN
Analysis: Many call this category a huge toss up, but in my mind it is no question. As great as Baldwin and Pace were (I couldn't stop laughing at Baldwin imitating members of Tracey's family) Carell will most likely be the winner. His submission was perfect and is wonderfully hilarious and actually complex as well. The only possible one to get in his way is Baldwin.
CURRENT EDGE: Steve Carell, THE OFFICE
PERSONAL PICK: Steve Carell, THE OFFICE
