With five hours left until showtime, here are my predictions for the 67th annual Golden Globe Awards.
BEST TELEVISION SERIES - DRAMA
- Big Love
- Mad Men
- True Blood
If the Hollywood Foreign Press didn't give this award to True Blood last year, then it probably won't win this year either. Mad Men's reign will continue in this category.
WILL WIN: Mad Men
SHOULD WIN: Mad Men
BEST ACTRESS IN A TELEVISION SERIES - DRAMA
- Glenn Close, Damages
- January Jones, Mad Men
- Julianna Margulies, The Good Wife
- Anna Paquin, True Blood
- Kyra Sedgwick, The Closer
With Julianna Margulies riding the momentum of have what is considered to be the best new drama of the season, she will probably pick up this one, but we all know January deserves it more, especially after losing out on an Emmy last year.
WILL WIN: Julianna Margulies, The Good Wife
SHOULD WIN: January Jones, Mad Men
BEST ACTOR IN A TELEVISION SERIES - DRAMA
- Simon Baker, The Mentalist
- Michael C. Hall, Dexter
- Jon Hamm, Mad Men
- Hugh Laurie, House
- Bill Paxton, Big Love
Baker's buzz from The Mentalist seems to have run out and my guess is that Hamm will shine as he picks up his second trophy and the first one on television but Paxton and the love the Press have for Big Love could prove strong.
WILL WIN: Jon Hamm, Mad Men
SHOULD WIN: Jon Hamm, Mad Men
BEST TELEVISION SERIES - MUSICAL OR COMEDY
- 30 Rock
- Modern Family
- The Office
With the Press's history of loving things that are completely camp like Desperate Housewives, Twin Peaks and Ugly Betty, Glee should have no problem taking this award. But Modern Family and 30 Rock deserved to be watched in this race.
WILL WIN: Glee
SHOULD WIN: Glee
BEST ACTRESS IN A TELEVISION SERIES - MUSICAL OR COMEDY
- Toni Collette, United States of Tara
- Courtney Cox, Cougar Town
- Edie Falco, Nurse Jackie
- Tina Fey, 30 Rock
- Lea Michele, Glee
While Collette just came off a "surprise" Emmy win back in September, something tells me that Edie Falco's smart-ass nurse will claim this prize.
WILL WIN: Edie Falco, Nurse Jackie
SHOULD WIN: Lea Michele, Glee
BEST ACTOR IN A TELEVISION SERIES - MUSICAL OR COMEDY
- Alec Baldwin, 30 Rock
- Steve Carell, The Office
- David Duchovny, Californication
- Thomas Jane, Hung
- Matthew Morrison, Glee
Alec Baldwin's claimed this one for two of the past three years. Could the Globes be getting tired of constantly rewarding Baldwin and want to spread the love a little? I say yes and that new kid Morrison will win for his great acting and his wonderful voice.
WILL WIN: Matthew Morrison, Glee
SHOULD WIN: Matthew Morrison, Glee
BEST MINI-SERIES OR MOTION PICTURE MADE FOR TELEVISION
- Georgia O'Keeffe
- Grey Gardens
- Into the Storm
- Little Dorrit
- Taking Chance
The love for Grey Gardens will continue here, even if it deserves to be given to another movie.
WILL WIN: Grey Gardens
SHOULD WIN: Taking Chance
BEST ACTRESS IN A MINI-SERIES OR MOTION PICTURE MADE FOR TELEVISION
- Joan Allen, Georgia O'Keeffe
- Drew Barrymore, Grey Gardens
- Jessica Lange, Grey Gardens
- Anna Paquin, The Courageous Heart of Irena Sendler
- Sigourney Weaver, Prayers for Bobby
While Lange claimed the Emmy, Barrymore will get some deserved love in this race.
WILL WIN: Drew Barrymore, Grey Gardens
SHOULD WIN: Sigourney Weaver, Prayers for Bobby
BEST ACTOR IN A MINI-SERIES OR MOTION PICTURE MADE FOR TELEVISION
- Kevin Bacon, Taking Chance
- Kenneth Branagh, Wallander: One Step Behind
- Chiwetel Ejiofor, Endgame
- Brendan Gleeson, Into the Storm
- Jeremy Irons, Georgia O'Keeffe
Kevin Bacon could finally claim a trophy for his amazing performance in Taking Chance but Gleeson will probably repeat his Emmy win for his amazing portrayal of Churchill in war time, especially since Albert Finney won for the film's precursor in 2002.
WILL WIN: Brendan Gleeson, Into the Storm
SHOULD WIN: Kevin Bacon, Taking Chance
BEST SUPPORTING ACTRESS IN A SERIES, MINI-SERIES OR MOTION PICTURE MADE FOR TELEVISION
- Jane Adams, Hung
- Rose Byrne, Damages
- Jane Lynch, Glee
- Janet McTeer, Into the Storm
- Chloe Sevigny, Big Love
The HFPA will not be able to resist the wonderfully sinister Sue Sylvester and that's how I "C" it!
WILL WIN: Jane Lynch, Glee
SHOULD WIN: Jane Lynch, Glee
BEST SUPPORTING ACTOR IN A SERIES, MINI-SERIES OR MOTION PICTURE MADE FOR TELEVISION
- Michael Emerson, Lost
- Neil Patrick Harris, How I Met Your Mother
- William Hurt, Damages
- John Lithgow, Dexter
- Jeremy Piven, Entourage
The competition's between Emerson, LIthgow and Harris but with the way he's emceed the entire year of 2009, Harris will hopefully get his due that the television academy robbed him of in September.
WILL WIN: Neil Patrick Harris, How I Met Your Mother
SHOULD WIN: Neil Patrick Harris, How I Met Your Mother
